Artist

Michael Nicolella is recognized as one of America's most innovative classical guitar virtuosos. Referred to as “one of the contemporary guitar’s most gifted stars” by Classical Guitar magazine, he has received wide critical acclaim for his performances, recordings and compositions. A uniquely eclectic and versatile artist, Michael blurs the lines between musical styles and disciplines. He is part of a growing trend in classical music to revitalize the role of the composer/performer. As a concert artist he frequently programs his own works for guitar in solo, chamber and orchestral settings. In April 2009 he was a composer in residence with the Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians at Columbus State University and in 2006-2007, Michael was composer in residence with the Northwest Symphony Orchestra, which culminated in the 2007 premiere of Ten Years Passed, for electric guitar and orchestra. more

About the series

Jack Straw Productions, Nonsequitur, and WCF present the Transport series of compelling performances by international and local artists, offering a way out of audio gridlock to music’s far horizons. The concerts include the Interval series of video work. Created by select filmmakers, the video accompanies music from calls for scores. Receptions follow the concerts.

The series features international and local artists in several premieres, and includes music by acclaimed composers. National calls for scores inject the programs with the latest music. Music and video are presented at the end of each intermission as part of the Interval series.
