Results announced in June 2008

Jack Straw Productions and Washington Composers Forum present the Transport series of compelling performances by international and local artists, offering a way out of audio gridlock to music’s far horizons. Several of the concerts will include works chosen from calls for scores adjudicated by the performers. In addition, WCF continues the Interval series, which will present recordings of original music with video on several of the Transport series concerts. Select filmmakers, soon to be announced, will set the music to video. The concerts will take place at the Chapel Performance Space in Seattle from October 2008 - June 2009. more about the venue

ELIGIBILITY

SUBMISSION

Please submit a proposal for a new music concert appropriate for the Transport series. The goals of the series are to present compelling performances of new music by international and local artists, offer a range of new music composition and performance practices, provide opportunities for composers and performers, and increase the relevance of new music to the public. “New music” is broadly defined to include classical and jazz composition, electroacoustic pieces, and site-specific works. Each Transport concert will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  1. A call for scores, to be administered by WCF and adjudicated by the performers. Performers will determine parameters of call, such as duration and instrumentation, and may decide not to perform any submissions.
  2. A live performance component.
  3. The Interval series of short films shown at intermission. WCF will be responsible for all aspects of the Interval series.
  4. World premieres and second performances of pieces are encouraged.

Modest funding is available to pay performers. Participants will receive a recording of the concert by Jack Straw Productions. WCF will be responsible for concert production, and will coordinate marketing with participants. Participants will be responsible for tech and equipment.

Submission packets must be received by February 16, 2008 and contain the following:

  1. Proposal describing how the concert will fulfill the goals of the Transport series, concert program details, and artist fees. Include information about any collaborating organizations, or if the concert will be part of a tour.
  2. Recordings or support materials for proposal.
  3. Contact information of proposal manager including name, address, phone number, and email address. To have materials returned, include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

ADJUDICATION
WCF’s Board of Directors, made up of composers and performers, will adjudicate the requests for proposals.
