Cyrille Rose was one of the foremost clarinet pedagogues of the 19th century. Clarinettist Sean Osborn discusses his recent recording of Cyrille Rose's 32 Etudes, made with a grant from Jack Straw, and composing for the clarinet. Covered topics will include Rose's novel use of phrasing, the clarinet's range, dynamic range, repertoire, technical possibilities, and "extended" techniques such as quarter-tones, multi-phonics, pitch bends, and other subjects.
Sean Osborn has traveled the US, Europe, and Japan as soloist and chamber musician, and traveled the world during his eleven years with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He has also appeared as guest principal clarinet with the New York Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, Seattle Symphony, and the American Symphony Orchestra. more
